## Description

The cruise along Mount Athos is the only way to see the monasteries for those who can't or don't want to enter the peninsula, and the only option for women, since entry to Mount Athos is allowed only to men with a permit (diamonitirion). No permit is needed for the cruise.

Boats leave mainly from Ouranoupoli, and some from Ierissos. The route follows the south-west coast of the peninsula at a distance from the shore, passing monasteries such as Dochiariou, Xenophontos and the Russian monastery of Agios Panteleimon. The usual trip lasts about three to four hours and normally comes with recorded or live commentary in several languages.

On the way out from Ouranoupoli the coast is on your left, so for the best view take a seat on the left side of the boat. In July and August book a day ahead. Bring a light layer for the deck, as even in summer it can be windy out at sea.
