## Description

## Cycling in Sithonia

Sithonia is hilly from end to end: the coastal ring road climbs and drops constantly above the sea, with pine forest and views at every bend. That makes it a place for fit cyclists rather than gentle rides.

### The Sithonia loop

The classic loop follows the ring road and is about 118 km. Approximate sections (road distances):

- Nikiti – Neos Marmaras: about 21 km
- Neos Marmaras – Toroni: about 22 km
- Toroni – Porto Koufo: about 3 km
- Porto Koufo – Sarti: about 26 km
- Sarti – Ormos Panagias: about 27 km
- Ormos Panagias – Nikiti: about 19 km

Most riders split it over two days, staying overnight in Sarti or Porto Koufo. The highest point of the peninsula is Mount Itamos (811 m), which the main road does not climb.

### Shorter ideas

- Toroni – Porto Koufo: a short ride between two bays, with an archaeological site and fish tavernas.
- Ormos Panagias – Nikiti: the stretch along the north-east coast, with views towards the Diaporos islets.

### Practical tips

- **When:** spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October). In summer, start very early in the morning.
- **Traffic:** the ring road is narrow in many places and fairly busy in July–August — wear reflective gear and carry lights.
- **Water:** there are long stretches between villages with no shops; carry plenty of water.
- **Helmet:** essential.
