Fine white sand, shallow turquoise water and views of the Drenia islets: its scenery is among the most “exotic” in all of northern Greece. The name comes from the old salt pans of the area, where salt was once collected. Today the setting is purely about swimming: the seabed is sandy and the water stays shallow for many metres — perfect for small children and easy swimming in a calm, sheltered bay. The beach is partially organized: sunbeds and umbrellas in the central section and a beach bar for coffee, drinks and light food, while the edges remain free for towels. Getting there is half adventure, half charm: you take the ferry from Tripiti — a short 10-15 minute crossing that also carries cars, with frequent summer departures — and from Ammouliani’s harbour the beach is about 2 km away. In July and August it is the busiest beach on the island — go in the morning for a spot and parking. In June and September you enjoy it almost empty, with the same postcard scenery. Don’t leave the island without exploring: Ammouliani’s other beaches (Agios Georgios, Megali Ammos, Karagatsi) each have their own character, and the village around the harbour has fish tavernas serving the day’s catch — some of the most authentic flavours in Halkidiki.
