## Description

Kryopigi Beach stretches along the east coast of Kassandra, between Kallithea and Polychrono, below the village of the same name that sits amphitheatrically on a pine-covered rise. It is about 100 km from Thessaloniki (roughly a 1.5-hour drive). It is one of the most family-friendly and quiet beaches in Kassandra, without the crowded scene of Hanioti or Kallithea.

The coastline is sandy, with a shallow bottom, stretching approximately 2 kilometres. It has held a Blue Flag most years. The major advantage: a pine forest that reaches almost to the sea, providing natural shade — a rare feature among the beaches of Halkidiki.

Partially organized with sunbeds and 2-3 beach bars in the centre, but a large part remains free — ideal for those who want to lay their own towel under the pines. There are kiosks in the free areas for drinks and snacks.

The name “Kryopigi” means “cold spring” — referring to the underground waters that rise on the slopes of the area. In certain spots along the beach the water really is cooler than elsewhere, because of these springs.

Access is from the village, which sits higher up on Kassandra’s main road: you reach the shore either by car or via footpaths through the pine forest. Parking near the beach is free — but in August it fills early, so aim to arrive before 10:30.

For families with small children it is one of the best choices in Kassandra: shallow water, pine shade, a calm atmosphere. The crowd: mostly Greek families and couples, few foreign tourists.

Water sports are available in the central section — kayaking, SUP, jet ski — but on a gentler scale than Hanioti or Kallithea.

Within a short distance: Kallithea 5 km north, Polychrono 5 km south — where the Mavrobara turtle lake is worth a stroll — and stone-built Afytos about 10 km north for an evening walk and dinner. There are also tavernas with a view in Kryopigi village itself.

Best period: June-September. In September the sea keeps its summer warmth and the beach empties out — arguably the finest time of year.
