> How to get from Tirana to Halkidiki — 550 km, ~8 hours drive

## How to Get There
Tirana is **550 km** from Halkidiki (~8 hours by car). Two main routes with distinct characters: via N. Macedonia (the scenic experience over Lake Ohrid) or direct AL-GR via Kakavija + Egnatia motorway (the modern highway version). Flying is also available but usually requires a layover.

## By Car — via Ohrid (MK)
About 8 hours, a scenic mountain route, ideal if you have time and want the experience:

- **Route:** Tirana → Elbasan → Qafë Thanë (AL-MK border) → Ohrid → Bitola → Niki (MK-GR border) → Florina → Thessaloniki → Halkidiki
- **Pro:** Stunning drive past Lake Ohrid
- **Con:** Two non-EU borders (AL-MK + MK-GR)

## By Car — direct AL-GR
About 9 hours but on more modern roads:

- **Route:** Tirana → Korçë → Kakavija border (AL-GR) → Ioannina → Egnatia motorway → Thessaloniki → Halkidiki
- **Pro:** Only one border. From Kastoria onward, Egnatia motorway in excellent condition
- **Con:** Slightly longer, mountain roads until Kastoria
