Hanioti (Chaniotis) is one of the most beloved family resorts of Kassandra, on the south-eastern side of the peninsula, about 110 km from Thessaloniki. It's famous for its long, shallow sandy beach and for the organised yet relaxed atmosphere that makes it ideal for holidays with children.
Hanioti's strong suit is balance: large enough to have full infrastructure and life, calm enough not to be tiring. The central pedestrian street with its shops, restaurants and ice-cream parlours is the evening meeting point, set in a green landscape of pines that reach the shore.
Hanioti's main beach is long, with fine golden sand and shallow, calm water — one of the most suitable in all of Halkidiki for small children. It's fully organised, with loungers, beach bars and water sports, while there are quieter spots a little further out.
You'll find tavernas, grill houses, ouzo bars and modern restaurants, plus plenty of bars and cafés for a livelier night — but without the intense "clubbing" character of Kallithea. It's a destination that manages to satisfy both parents and teenagers in the same family.
Beyond the sea, Hanioti is a good base for trips to the tip of the peninsula — to Paliouri, Agios Nikolaos and the wilder southern beaches. The dense surrounding pines offer shade, coolness and pleasant morning walks or cycling.
It's easily reached by car in about 1.5 hours from Thessaloniki airport, with a KTEL bus connection too. It's one of the most in-demand resorts, so early booking is advisable in August.
A top choice for families with children, but also for groups wanting life without excess. Main season is June–September, with July and August at the peak.
