## Description

Nea Gonia is a hill village in the Kallikrateia municipal unit of Nea Propontida, at an altitude of about 150 metres. It is not on the sea: it lies inland, about 6.5 km from Nea Kallikratia and the Thermaic Gulf coast.

History

The village was founded by refugees from Eastern Thrace after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, like many settlements of Nea Propontida, a municipality named after the Propontis (Sea of Marmara).

What sets it apart

Farming is the main occupation. Nea Gonia is known for its vineyards and vine leaves, and olives are grown too. It is an ordinary, quiet farming village with no tourist infrastructure.

The sea

The nearest beaches are at Nea Kallikratia (about 6.5 km) and Mykoniatika — sandy, shallow and organised, with tavernas and cafés.

Around the village

The closest villages are Agios Pavlos (about 4 km) and Lakkoma (about 4.5 km), while Nea Kallikratia is the nearest town with shops and services.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants a quiet inland village, with the Kallikratia coast a few minutes away by car.
