Nea Moudania is the largest town on the coastal mainland of Halkidiki and an important commercial centre, with a population of around 8,000. It acts as the natural gateway to Kassandra and as a service hub for the whole area.
Unlike the small resorts, Nea Moudania has the character of a lively town: a market, shops, banks, a marina and life year-round. It was founded by refugees from Moudania in Asia Minor, a heritage honoured with a well-known summer festival.
The town's coast and nearby beaches (Portes, Agios Mamas) are sandy with shallow water. The marina and the seafront promenade are the centre of evening life.
You'll find plenty of restaurants, fish tavernas, cafés and bars — from traditional ouzo bars to modern venues by the sea.
It's only ~40 minutes by car from Thessaloniki. It's an ideal base with full services, close to the entrance of Kassandra and to ancient Olynthos.
