It takes its name from ancient Skione, an important city of antiquity that also played a role in the Peloponnesian War. As a fishing village, it keeps a living fishing tradition, with boats in the little harbour and ultra-fresh fish in the tavernas. Its western position gives it spectacular sunsets over the sea — a rare privilege for east-facing Halkidiki.
The shores around Nea Skioni are calm, sandy and often less crowded. The village is also close, across the peninsula, to the popular resorts of Hanioti and Pefkochori on the eastern side, so you combine quiet with options.
Its strong suit is fresh fish and seafood in the traditional fish tavernas by the water — an authentic experience at a relaxed, unpretentious pace.
It's about 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki, in south-western Kassandra. Nearby are Agia Paraskevi with its thermal baths and Paliouri toward the tip of the peninsula.
Ideal for couples and families seeking quiet, authenticity and good fish, with sunsets as a bonus. Main season is May–September.
