Parthenon (Parthenonas) is one of the few mountain villages of Sithonia, built on the slopes of Mount Itamos, high above Neos Marmaras. It's a picturesque, stone-built traditional settlement with panoramic views over the Toronaios Gulf — and, on clear days, as far as Mount Athos in the distance.
Parthenon was abandoned in the mid-20th century as its residents moved down to the sea, to Neos Marmaras. In recent decades, however, it has been restored and brought back to life: stone houses, cobbled lanes, a small folklore museum and tavernas with a view give it a rare, authentic atmosphere.
Its great asset is the view and the quiet. It's ideal for a romantic dinner at sunset and a starting point for hiking on the green slopes of Itamos.
The closest shores are a few minutes below, toward Neos Marmaras — Paradisos, Lagomandra and the beautiful beaches of western Sithonia.
It's about 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki and only ~5 km from Neos Marmaras. Nearby are Elia and Vourvourou.
Ideal for couples and anyone wanting tradition, views and quiet, with the sea close at hand. Best season is May–September.
