Pefkochori is one of the most popular resorts of Kassandra, in the south-eastern part of the peninsula, about 110 km from Thessaloniki. Its name says it all: "village of the pines" — the dense pine forests that reach almost to the sea are its trademark, offering natural shade and coolness even in the middle of August.
Pefkochori combines the crowds and entertainment of a large resort with lush, natural surroundings. Its central pedestrian street fills at night with shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, while the atmosphere stays more family-oriented and relaxed than the more "clubbing" Kallithea.
Pefkochori's long organised beach and the neighbouring Golden Beach are among the busiest and best-equipped in the area, with shallow water, loungers, water sports and beach bars. There are also quieter, semi-organised spots hidden among the pines for those seeking calm.
You'll find tavernas with fresh fish, ouzo bars, grill houses, gelato and cocktail bars by the sea. The picturesque old harbour is ideal for a romantic dinner overlooking the fishing boats, while the pedestrian street is perfect for an evening stroll, ice cream and shopping.
Beyond the beach, the area offers trails through the pines, cycling and every kind of water sport. It's also a good starting point for trips to the tip of the peninsula — to Paliouri, Agios Nikolaos and the wild southern coast of Kassandra.
It's easily reached by car in about 1.5 hours from Thessaloniki airport, with a KTEL bus connection too. Given its popularity, August brings heavier road traffic and high demand for accommodation.
Ideal for families and groups who want full infrastructure, greenery and fun together. Main season is June–September; August is the busiest month, so book early, while June and September are calmer.
