Porto Koufo is at the southern tip of Sithonia and is the largest natural harbour in Greece — a deep, almost enclosed bay resembling a fjord, protected by high cliffs.
Its name ("koufo" = deaf) comes from the fact that, inside the enclosed bay, you can't hear the sound of the open sea. This natural harbour was used as a naval base during World War II and remains a safe anchorage for boats and fishermen.
In and around the bay there are quiet beaches, while very close are Toroni (~3 km) with its long sandy beach and Kalamitsi.
Porto Koufo is famous for its fish tavernas beside the boats, with ultra-fresh fish and seafood in a unique, tranquil setting.
It's in southern Sithonia, about 2 hours by car from Thessaloniki.
Ideal for couples and lovers of nature, boats and good fish in a striking landscape. Main season is May–September.
