Stratoni is a seaside village in north-eastern Halkidiki, on the Strymonic Gulf, beneath the mountains of upper Halkidiki. It has a distinctive character, combining the sea with a long mining tradition.
The wider area is historically known for its mines (lead, zinc, gold), which for centuries have been a major source of activity. This gives Stratoni an authentic, working identity, different from the tourist resorts.
Stratoni beach lies next to the village, sandy with clear water, ideal for calm swimming with a view of the mountains and the sea.
It's about 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki. Very close are Stagira (Aristotle's birthplace), picturesque Stratoniki and beautiful Olympiada.
Ideal for travellers wanting authentic sea, history and nature away from the mass crowds, and for combining with the sights of upper Halkidiki. Main season is May–September.
