Taxiarhis is known for its University Forest (managed by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), an extensive forest of oak, beech and chestnut, ideal for hiking, cycling and nature watching.
Thanks to its altitude and cool climate, Taxiarhis offers coolness in summer and a wintry atmosphere in the cold months, with waymarked trails and mountain activities.
In its tavernas you'll taste traditional mountain cuisine, grills, chestnuts, honey and mushrooms — flavours of the forest.
It's about 1 hour by car from Thessaloniki. Next to it are Agios Prodromos and Varvara, while traditional Arnaia is close by.
