Vourvourou is one of the most distinctive destinations in all of Halkidiki, on the eastern coast of Sithonia. Its landmark is the cluster of small islands centred on Diaporos, which create shallow, turquoise waters like a natural pool — a scene closer to an exotic archipelago than a Greek coast.
Unlike the "classic" resorts, Vourvourou has a more natural, calm and slightly upscale character, set among dense pines that reach the sea. It's a favourite for lovers of nature, kayaking and SUP among the islets.
Next to it lies the famous Karidi beach (~1 km), with its signature pine-backed sandy spit and shallow water — one of the most photographed in Greece. Then come Fava, Livari and small, sheltered coves ideal for snorkelling and calm swimming.
Rent a kayak or a small boat and explore Diaporos and the surrounding islets, swim in secluded bays reachable only from the sea, and enjoy the sunset among the islands.
It's about 1.5–2 hours by car from Thessaloniki. Very close are Ormos Panagias (~8 km, departure point for Mount Athos cruises), Elia and Neos Marmaras — making it an excellent base for eastern Sithonia.
Ideal for couples, families and nature lovers wanting beauty and calm with a touch of luxury. Best season is May–September; August is in high demand, so book early.
