When for the best shots
Golden hour: 30 minutes after sunrise and 30 minutes before sunset — soft light makes the water glow. Summer: Maximum brightness, clear water. Autumn: Better colours, empty beaches — perfect for landscape photography. Best beach time: 7-9 AM with no crowds. After 11 it fills up.
Photography tips
- Gear: Drone (permitted with license), wide-angle for beaches, polariser for water. A mobile camera with filters is plenty.
- Iconic spots: Possidi lighthouse, Kavourotrypes, Prosforion Tower (Ouranoupoli), old Afytos village, Vourvourou.
- Drone: Permit required for commercial use. Personal use allowed below 120m. Not over people.
- Etiquette: Don't bother locals or tavernas asking to shoot stories. Ask first.
- Sunset shots: Western Halkidiki (Possidi, western Kallithea) — not the eastern legs.
