Agia Paraskevi is a small village in southern Kassandra, mainly famous for its thermal springs — known as "Agia Paraskevi Baths." With around 1,000 permanent residents, the village combines beach vacations with an additional aspect: healing. The waters of the area have been used for therapeutic treatment since ancient times and are among the few places in Greece where you have access to real thermal springs next to the sea.
Where it is located and how to get there
On the southeastern coast of Kassandra, between Pefkochori and Paliouri. It is 115 kilometers from Thessaloniki, with a driving time of 1 hour and 40 minutes. From SKG airport, it takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
By KTEL, there are 2-3 daily routes during the summer. More frequently, you can go to Pefkochori or Paliouri and continue by taxi (5-10 euros).
The thermal springs — the main advantage
The Agia Paraskevi Baths are sulfurous, hyperthermal springs with temperatures reaching 40°C at the source. Their waters are classified as:
- Thermomineral (hyperthermal)
- Sulfurous
- Chloride-sodium
- Radon
They are traditionally used for:
- Skin diseases
- Rheumatism and arthritis
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Gynecological conditions
- Respiratory diseases (through inhalations)
The medical community recognizes the benefits of hydrotherapy — although it does not replace conventional medical treatment, it can work complementarily.
Two facilities
1. Organized spa-hydrotherapy center: modern facilities with pools, individual bathtubs, inhalations, and spa services (massage, aromatherapy). Entrance fee: 8-15 euros for basic use, 25-50 euros for a full program with massage. Open from May to October.
2. Natural springs by the sea: some springs naturally emerge near the beach, and you can bathe in warm waters mixed with seawater. Free, but the experience is more "primitive" — there are no facilities.
The beach
The Agia Paraskevi Baths beach is sandy, of moderate length, with pine trees at the back and a Blue Flag most years. It is not one of the most impressive beaches in Kassandra, but it is quiet, clean, and suitable for families with small children.
More popular neighboring beaches:
- Pefkochori: 4 km north, large organized beach
- Paliouri: 6 km south, sandy with pines
- Skala Fourkas: 8 km northwest (another coast of Kassandra)
- Kalandra: 12 km west, less known
Food
In Agia Paraskevi, there are several traditional taverns — many with local clientele. Local specialties include:
- Fish from local boats (the village has a small harbor)
- Grilled meats from taverns further in the village
- Cheeses and olives from Halkidiki
- Traditional sweets: olive oil cookies, halva, galaktoboureko
Prices are more affordable than in more touristy areas: 30-45 euros for a table for 2.
Accommodation
Agia Paraskevi has relatively limited accommodation infrastructure compared to Pefkochori or Kallithea. Options include:
- Spa hotel (1-2 options): full spa & wellness services combined with accommodation. 100-200 euros/night in normal season, 200-350 in peak season
- Traditional small hotels and apartments: 60-120 euros/night
- Studios: 50-80 euros
Many visitors choose to stay in Pefkochori (4 km) or Paliouri (6 km) and visit Agia Paraskevi for the baths as a day trip.
Activities beyond the baths
- Visit nearby beaches: Pefkochori, Paliouri, Kalandra
- Day trip to Cape Poseidi (15 km south): lighthouse and panoramic sunset
- Visit Afytos: 30 km north, traditional stone village
- Boat trip from Pefkochori: short cruises
- Kayaking or SUP: rentals available on the beach
- Hiking: a trail from the baths to the forested areas of the region, of moderate difficulty
Best time to visit
For the baths: they operate from May to October. The best period for a combination of baths + beach is June-July and September. For those coming mainly for therapeutic reasons, the off-season period (May or October) has the advantage of tranquility and lower prices.
Recommendation: if you have chronic issues such as rheumatism or skin conditions, a complete hydrotherapy treatment lasts 10-15 days. If you come for wellness, 2-3 days are enough to feel the benefits.
Ideal for whom
- People with chronic conditions who can benefit from hydrotherapy
- Seniors looking for a peaceful vacation with wellness
- Couples wanting to combine spa with beach
- Those seeking a "different" experience from regular beach vacations
- Families with small children (quiet beach, shallow waters)
- Those wanting an authentic traditional atmosphere without mass tourist pressure
Not ideal for whom
- Those looking for vibrant nightlife (almost non-existent here)
- Those wanting a wider variety of restaurants and services
- Those wanting the most "exotic" beach image — the Baths have their own character but are not "Karydi Vourvourou"
Practical information
- 1-2 ATMs
- 1 pharmacy
- Small supermarkets
- Gas station within the village
- Good 4G/5G coverage
- Recommendation for baths: bring your own bathrobe and flip-flops. Bring water for hydration afterward. Not recommended for those with heart problems or high blood pressure — consult a doctor beforehand.
- Duration of the thermal bath: start with 10-15 minutes. More than 25-30 minutes can be tiring due to the heat and therapeutic ingredients.
