Nea Plagia is a coastal village in northwestern Halkidiki, just south of Nea Moudania. With around 1,000 permanent residents, it retains the identity of a fishing village with a refugee history — the inhabitants descend from Plagia in Asia Minor and settled here after 1922.
Location and How to Get There
Located in northwestern Halkidiki, 5 km south of Nea Moudania. It is 72 kilometers (1 hour drive) from Thessaloniki.
There are KTEL bus routes to Nea Moudania that pass through Nea Plagia.
The Beach
Sandy, with a shallow bottom, of moderate length. It has a Blue Flag most years. Partially organized with sunbeds and beach bars. It has a very "local" character — the clientele mainly consists of Thessalonians who come for day trips or weekends.
Food
Several traditional fish taverns serving fresh fish from local boats. Specialties include:
- Fresh catch of the day
- Mussels from nearby farms
- Traditional Asia Minor recipes
- Local olive oil and olives
Prices are affordable: 30-45 euros for a table for 2.
