Nea Triglia is a small coastal village in northwestern Halkidiki, just before Nea Moudania. With around 1,500 permanent residents, it retains the identity of a traditional fishing village with a refugee history. It is named after Triglia in Asia Minor (near Bursa), the homeland of the refugees who settled here after 1922.
Location and How to Get There
Located in northwestern Halkidiki, 8 km northwest of Nea Moudania. It is 62 kilometers (50 minutes drive) from Thessaloniki — one of the closest destinations in Halkidiki to the city. From SKG airport: 55 km.
There are frequent daily bus services (KTEL) due to its proximity to Nea Moudania.
A Bit of History
Nea Triglia was founded in 1924 by refugees from Triglia of Bithynia (modern Tirilye/Zeytinbağı, on the coast of the Sea of Marmara near Bursa). These refugees were traditionally fishermen and olive oil producers. The new village was designed in a rectangular layout with straight streets — a characteristic of the refugee settlements from 1922-1924.
Today, the memory of its Asia Minor origins is strongly preserved — with annual events, museum collections, and vibrant traditions (dances, music, cuisine).
