Planitsi (often written "Platanitsi" or "Planitsi") is a coastal spot in eastern Sithonia, north of Sarti. It is not a typical village but mainly a large sandy beach with camping, scattered accommodations, and a large pine forest. It is one of the most "natural" spots in Sithonia — protected, without mass tourism.
Location and How to Get There
Located in eastern Sithonia, 7 km north of Sarti, on the way to Ormos Panagias. It is 130 kilometers (2 hours drive) from Thessaloniki.
You can reach Sarti by KTEL and continue with a taxi or car.
The Beach
Planitsi beach is one of the most impressive in Sithonia:
- Length: about 1 km, in a straight line
- Sand: white, fine
- Depth: shallow for a long distance — ideal for children
- Sand dunes: 3-4 meters high at the back — a rare geomorphological feature for Sithonia
- Pine forest: dense, almost reaching the sea
- Organization: mild, mainly through the camping
It rarely gets overcrowded due to the large space.
Camping Armenistis
Next to Planitsi is Camping Armenistis — one of the largest campsites in Greece. It has its own beach section of Planitsi. It includes:
- Spaces for tents, caravans, motorhomes
- Mini market, restaurants, bars
- Animation events during summer afternoons
- Its own beach section with sunbeds
Cost details: 12-25 euros per person + space. A good choice for those who prefer a camping experience.
Food
On Planitsi beach, there are 1-2 beach bars and 1 tavern. A richer selection is available in Sarti (7 km) or Ormos Panagias (10 km to the north).
Accommodation
Besides camping, there are a few small accommodations and rentals nearby. Prices range from 50-100 euros/night.
