The Gate of Mount Athos
Uranoupoli is the last town before the borders of Mount Athos. From here, boats depart for the monasteries and cruises around the peninsula.
Prosforos Tower
The Byzantine tower of the 14th century dominates the harbor. It was part of a monastic estate. Today, it houses a museum. The view from nearby is worth it.
Drenia Islets
The Drenia (or Donkey Islands) are a complex of small islands 20 minutes by boat. Exotic waters, sandy beaches, with no one around. Small boats leave daily from the harbor (€10-15).
Mount Athos Cruise
Without needing a special permit, you can see the monasteries from the sea. The cruise lasts 3-4 hours (€25-40). An ideal experience.
Beaches
The main beach is sandy with shallow waters. Further down, Komitsa beach is quiet and unorganized.
Food
The taverns at the harbor serve Athonite fish soup, lemon fish, and fresh seafood. Kritikos has been operating for over 40 years.
