Sani is one of the most famous beaches in Halkidiki and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful. It is located in northwestern Kassandra and is synonymous with a premium experience due to the eponymous 5* resort developed there. Despite its fame, there is also a public beach with free access — this knowledge is important for those who want the Sani experience without the cost of the resort.
Location and How to Get There
In northwestern Kassandra, 30 km from the Potidea canal. From Thessaloniki, it is 92 kilometers (1 hour 20 minutes drive). From SKG airport: 90 km.
With Halkidiki KTEL, there are daily routes to Sani and the surrounding area.
Public Beach vs Private (Sani Resort)
Public Sani Beach
The public side of the beach is equally impressive as the private one:
- White fine sand
- Turquoise shallow waters
- Pine forest at the back
- Blue Flag
- Free access and parking
It is the same coastline — just a different section. Many prefer it because it has a more "local" character.
Sani Resort Beaches (Private)
Sani Resort has several private beaches along its coast. They are accessible only to guests of the resort's hotels. Fully organized with top-notch facilities:
- Sunbeds, umbrellas, beach service
- Lifeguards
- Watersports center
- Beach bars and restaurants on the sand
The History of Sani
The area has an ancient history — the ancient Sani was an important city during classical times, although the remains today are few. The Byzantine monastery of Saint Paul maintained dependencies in the area.
The modern Sani Resort was founded in 1971 and has gradually developed. Today it covers over 1,000 acres and is one of Greece's top resorts.
The Wetland and Pink Flamingos
Next to Sani, there is a protected wetland (Natura 2000) — one of the most important wetland areas in Northern Greece. During the winter months (November-February), it hosts pink flamingos and many other migratory birds.
Birdwatching is ideal in the morning hours. There are trails accessible from the beach.
