Our Story
In the picturesque village of Sykiá, Halkidiki, nestled among olive groves, stone paths, and the gentle sea breeze, stands a small house that seems to breathe the history of the place. AMIRA House is not just an accommodation; it is a living story, built with love, memories, and deep respect for tradition. Its history began in 1899 when the family’s great-grandfather built a simple cabin from stone and earth, as the old craftsmen of Halkidiki used to do. It was a humble yet soulful space that hosted the family and their life for many decades. During the war of the 1940s, this humble cabin became a refuge of hope. With courage and ingenuity, the grandfather hid his children along with the children of neighbors beneath the earthen floor to protect them from German patrols. There, among stones and whispered prayers, lives were saved and stories were born that are still whispered today. When the war ended, the house was once again filled with light and creativity. The grandfather, a man of art and patience, transformed it into a carpentry workshop. The sound of the saw and the scent of wood filled the yard every morning, and the space that once offered safety now provided life, purpose, and joy. Over the years, the house fell silent, wrapped in thyme and basil, but it was never forgotten. Its stones patiently awaited the one who would give it a voice again. That was Minás. With respect for the past and love for his homeland, he decided to restore the old stone house, preserving its traditional character, natural stone walls, and wooden ceiling that awaken memories of another era. Thus, AMIRA House was born — a home that unites three generations and bears the imprint of an entire family. Today, it opens its doors to travelers from around the world, offering hospitality with soul, authentic simplicity, and the tranquility that only a place with deep roots can provide.
