Xenophon Monastery
Mount Athos, Athos Peninsula, Halkidiki

The Monastery of Xenophon is located on the **southwestern coast** next to the sea, near Dafni. It was founded in the **10th century** by the monk Xenophon and holds the **16th position** in the Hierarchy. It is one of the most easily accessible monasteries: it is a 20-30 minute walk from Dafni along the beach. Two **important mosaics** from the 11th-12th century are preserved, which were salvaged from the older basilica — they are considered some of the rarest Byzantine mosaics on Mount Athos. There is also an icon of Saint George (14th century). The complex includes two catholicons: the old one (16th century) and the new one (19th century). The monastery was extensively renovated in the 19th century with Wallachian funding. Access: very easy — from Dafni on foot (20-30 minutes) or by bus. An ideal visit immediately before or after ferry departure. It accommodates visitors.
