Karagatsia (Karagatsi) is one of Ammouliani's quiet beaches, about 2 km from the island's village. The name comes from the elm trees ("karagatsia") that traditionally shaded the shore.
The shore is sandy with a few pebbles, short in length, with shallow calm water inside the sheltered Mount Athos gulf — comfortable swimming for children too.
Free, with no permanent facilities: bring an umbrella and supplies. The scene is simple and local — trees, sea, quiet.
An ideal second or third stop on an island loop, together with Alykes and Agios Georgios. Access via the Tripiti ferry (10 minutes) and a short ride on the island.
Best period: June and September for a near-private experience. On a bicycle loop of the island, Karagatsia is the natural stop between Alykes and Agios Georgios — save time for mussels at the harbour before you leave.
The beach is located in Καραγάτσια, Χαλκιδική, Mainland Halkidiki, Halkidiki.
Karagatsia is a sandy beach.
Karagatsia beach has a rating of 3.8/5.
