Fourka is a small village in northwestern Kassandra, with around 700 permanent residents. It essentially consists of two parts: the old village, which is located 2 km inland with traditional architecture, and Fourka Beach, the coastal area where tourist activity is concentrated. The name comes from the Byzantine "fourka" — a wooden tripod/fork, a tool used by local fishermen.
Location and How to Get There
On the northwestern coast of Kassandra. It is 100 kilometers from Thessaloniki (1 hour 30 minutes drive). From Pefkochori: 7 km south. From Nea Moudania: 35 km.
There are regular bus services with KTEL Halkidiki daily in the summer.
The Old Village
2 km inland from the beach, the old village of Fourka has preserved remarkable traditional architecture. Stone houses, narrow cobblestone streets, a small square with plane trees, and a traditional church. Locals gather in the old cafés of the square, and the atmosphere is completely different from the beach area — more authentic, more Greek, more "village-like".
A brief visit is worthwhile even if you are staying at the beach — a stroll in the old village + coffee or a glass of tsipouro at a café.
Fourka Beach (Coastal Side)
Fourka Beach features a sandy beach 2 km long with a Blue Flag for most years. It is organized with sunbeds and some beach bars, but quieter than the neighboring Chanioti (just 5 km south). Pine trees at the back.
The beach area has the most tourist infrastructure: hotels, tavernas, cafés, mini-markets, and a medical center.
