Fourka is two villages in one: the old village up on the hill, with the quiet rhythm of the inland, and Skala Fourkas down by the sea — one of west Kassandra's best-loved summer hangouts. With ~800 permanent residents, it is about 95 km from Thessaloniki, between Siviri (4.9 km) and Kalandra (3.9 km).
Beach and sea
Skala Fourkas has a long sandy beach with shallow water and a mixed character: an organized centre with sunbeds and beach bars, free zones as you walk out. Like the whole west coast it faces the sunset — in the late afternoon the seafront fills up for the "last sun" with a drink in hand.
Within a short radius: Possidi with its sand spit and lighthouse (6 km), free Agios Nikolaos (4.8 km) and Myti (7.1 km) for a more local scene. All options: beaches near Fourka.
Things to do
- Water park: The aquapark is literally next door (1.3 km) — the easiest "full day" with kids in all of Kassandra.
- Sunset at Possidi: A 10-minute drive to the sand spit and the 1864 lighthouse — the area's classic late-afternoon outing.
- The old village: Head up to "upper" Fourka for a taverna without a tourist menu and a sunset view from above.
Food and stay
At the Skala you'll find fish tavernas, grills and beach bars; up in the village, more traditional options. Accommodation is mostly rooms and studios near the sea — browse stays in the area.
Practical
- Distance: ~95 km from Thessaloniki (1h 25m); turn right after Kassandrino for the west coast.
- Parking: At the ends of the seafront; August middays get tight.
- Best period: June-September — August is Skala at full swing, September brings the calm back.
Practical notes for international visitors
Fourka Skala is the west coast's younger-at-heart corner: a long sandy beach, beach bars with a sundowner programme, and the peninsula's aquapark practically next door — the easiest kids' reward on Kassandra. The double-village trick: summer happens down at the Skala, while up in old Fourka you dine without a tourist menu and with a view.
Frequently asked questions
Fourka or Siviri?
Very close call — Fourka (Skala) has a slightly younger evening scene and the aquapark next door, Siviri has the amphitheatre and a slightly quieter profile. Both share the same sunset.
Is Fourka family-friendly?
Yes — shallow sand, an aquapark 2 minutes away and calm morning water. Evenings at the Skala are lively but nothing like Kallithea.
