Kalyves Polygyrou is the locals' "secret" at the head of the Toroneos gulf: Polygyros' seaside settlement, between Gerakini and Olynthos, with a wide sandy beach stretching for kilometres — all the way to Gerakini's beach. The name tells the story: this is where Polygyros families built the "kalyves" (huts) for their seaside fields, and slowly the huts became holiday homes.
Beach and sea
Kalyves beach is among central Halkidiki's longest continuous sands: golden sand, shallow water that warms quickly, organized patches with umbrellas and beach bars in front of the settlement, and endless free space either side. The bay is enclosed, so waves rarely build — perfect for small children.
Eastwards the same sand continues towards Gerakini and Psakoudia. All options: beaches near Kalyves.
Things to do
- Polygyros (15 minutes): Halkidiki's capital — the market, the square's kafeneia and the Archaeological Museum.
- Ancient Olynthos: To the west, central Halkidiki's most important archaeological site — see the guide.
- Base position: Like Gerakini, Kalyves faces both peninsulas — Sithonia and Kassandra within 25-35 minutes.

Practical notes for international visitors
Kalyves is the locals' beach: kilometres of sand on the Toroneos gulf, holiday homes rather than hotel chains, prices like a decade ago. For international self-caterers with a hire car, one of the most relaxed bases in central Halkidiki — Polygyros 15 minutes away for shopping.
