Poseidi is a small coastal spot at the southern tip of Kassandra, famous for its namesake cape and stunning beaches. It is not a typical village — it is mainly a "tongue" of land extending into the sea, with a small settlement, beaches on two sides, and the picturesque Poseidi lighthouse. The name comes from the ancient god Poseidon — the area was dedicated to him in ancient times.
Where it is and how to get there
At the southwestern tip of Kassandra, 8 km south of Kalandra. It is 110 kilometers (1 hour 45 minutes drive) from Thessaloniki. From Kallithea: 35 km southwest.
You can reach nearby villages (Nea Skioni, Kalandra) by KTEL and continue by taxi or car.
The Poseidi Cape — Geography
The cape is a "tongue" of land that extends 2 km into the sea. This creates a unique feature: beaches on two sides:
- North side: calm waters (protected from northern winds)
- South side: slightly more "open" sea with small waves
This way, you can choose the side depending on the day's conditions — if the wind is blowing from the north, go south; if from the south, go north.
Trani Ammos Beach — the best in Kassandra
At the most impressive point of the cape lies Trani Ammos — a sandy dune that stretches from one side of the tongue of land to the other. White fine sand, shallow waters, and a pine forest at the back. It is one of the most photogenic landscapes in Halkidiki.
Access: by car to the parking area, then a 5-minute walk.
The Poseidi Lighthouse
At the southernmost tip of the cape stands the Poseidi Lighthouse, built in 1864. It is one of the most beautiful spots for sunset in Halkidiki:
- 270° view of the horizon
- The sun sets over the open sea of the Thermaic Gulf
- On clear days, Mount Olympus can be seen on the western horizon (110 km away)
Practical: 5 minutes walk from the parking area to the lighthouse. Bring a hat and water — there is no kiosk.
Other beaches of the cape
- Beach on the north side: extensive sandy, partially organized
- Beach on the south side: wilder, with small waves
- Dragoudeli Poseidi: more remote, quiet
Food and accommodation
In Poseidi, there are 3-4 fish taverns serving fresh fish. Limited accommodation infrastructure — a few small lodgings. Most visitors come as a day trip from Nea Skioni, Kalandra, or Kallithea.
Food prices: 35-55 euros for a table for 2.
