Possidi is Kassandra's most distinctive landscape: a cape on the west coast where the sand runs into the sea like a tongue that changes shape with the currents, watched over by a lighthouse from 1864. The small settlement (together with neighbouring Kalandra, 1.7 km) has the character of a Greek family resort — a student summer camp, families who have been coming for decades, fish tavernas. It is about 105 km from Thessaloniki.
The beach and the sand spit
Possidi Beach has two faces. In front of the village it is organized — sunbeds, a beach bar, shallow water, ideal for families. Towards the cape, though, the real spectacle opens up: the sand spit, hundreds of metres of bare sand between two seas. On the inner side the water is shallow and calm; on the outer side livelier. The scenery changes every year — the currents keep "redrawing" the spit's shape.

The lighthouse and the sunset
The Possidi lighthouse, built in 1864, is among Macedonia's oldest and the cape's landmark. Sunset here is a ritual: the sun sinks into the Thermaic Gulf with Mount Olympus on the horizon, and the spit fills with phones and tripods. Arrive 30-40 minutes before sundown for a spot — and stay after; the "blue hour" over the spit is just as good.
A little history
The name is no accident: from the 11th century BC the cape hosted a sanctuary of Poseidon, one of Macedonia's most important — its foundations survive near the lighthouse. These waters were a shipping lane since antiquity, hence the lighthouse.
