Porto Agio is a small, sheltered cove in northeastern Halkidiki, within the broader area of Athos. The name comes from "holy harbor" — referring to the monastic connection of the region.
The beach is sandy with pebbles in some spots, relatively short, with a shallow seabed. Almost entirely free — there are a few sunbeds in certain areas.
The cove's shape protects it from strong winds — the waters remain calm even on days when the open sea is rough. Ideal for swimming, SUP, and kayaking.
The waters are exceptionally clear turquoise. For snorkeling: decent opportunities along the rocky edges.
Clientele: locals, groups familiar with the area. Little crowding even in August.
The surrounding area is close to Mount Athos — from there, you have stunning views of the peninsula and the mountain.
Access: via provincial roads. Parking is irregular. Bring water, snacks, towels, and sunscreen due to limited facilities. Shade: you might find some in rocky corners or a few trees.
For a complete experience, combine your visit with a trip to Ouranoupoli or Ammouliani. Best time: June-September.
The beach is located in Πόρτο Άγιο, Αμμουλιανή, Mainland Halkidiki, Halkidiki.
Porto Agio is a free/unorganized beach.
Porto Agio is a free beach without sunbeds. Bring your own umbrella!
