Nea Skioni is a coastal village in southwestern Kassandra, on the side facing the Thermaic Gulf. With around 1,000 permanent residents, it retains the character of a traditional fishing village — with an active fishing fleet and authentic cuisine. It is one of the most picturesque places in Kassandra, offering panoramic views of Olympus on clear days.
Location and How to Get There
Located in southwestern Kassandra, between Kalandra and Palio Skioni. It is 120 kilometers (1 hour 45 minutes drive) from Thessaloniki. From Kallithea: 30 km.
There are 2-3 daily bus routes with KTEL Halkidiki during the summer.
A Bit of History
The area had an ancient famous city — Skioni (an ancient Greek city mentioned by Thucydides). It was destroyed by the Athenians during the Peloponnesian War. The modern "Nea Skioni" is not located in the exact same spot as the ancient one, but it took its name as a cultural heritage.
In more recent times, modern Nea Skioni was founded by a refugee settlement after 1922, with fishing traditions that continue to this day.
The Beach
The Nea Skioni Beach is sandy, with a shallow seabed. It has a Blue Flag most years. Partially organized with sunbeds and beach bars, free at the edges.
The unique feature is the view of Olympus — on clear days, you can see its peak (2,918m) on the western horizon, with its snow-capped summit visible even during the summer months. The sunsets are among the most impressive in Kassandra.
