Diving in Kassandra

Kassandra is a good place for a first taste of diving. Most dive centres operate in the peninsula's larger resort villages and hotels, and the water is usually calm, warm and clear, which helps beginners.

If you don't have a certification, the simplest option is a trial dive with an instructor (known as Discover Scuba or Try Scuba), usually at shallow depth and from the age of ten. Certified divers can book fun dives or continue their training.

On the seabed you'll see Posidonia meadows, octopus, white sea bream, moray eels and many smaller rock-dwelling creatures. Visibility is usually best in June and September, while in August the water reaches about 25 degrees.

Two practical points: if you have a health condition, especially heart or ear problems, see a doctor before diving, and don't plan a flight on the same day — the general guideline is to wait at least 18 hours after repeated dives.
