Blue Flag Beaches in Halkidiki

Halkidiki is the number one prefecture in Greece for Blue Flags: for 2026 it received 93 awarded beaches, more than any other prefecture in the country. Greece as a whole reached 624 awarded beaches, ranking 2nd worldwide among 51 participating countries.

The Blue Flag is awarded annually by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, the national operator of the international programme. It is not simply a sign of clean water: a beach must meet dozens of strict criteria across four areas — water quality with regular sampling, environmental management and recycling, safety with lifeguards and first aid, and environmental education for visitors.

In practice, an awarded beach means cleaned sand, organised services, wheelchair access and tested bathing water — which makes it the safest choice for families with small children. Awards are valid for one season and are reassessed every year.
