Arnaia

Arnaia is one of the most beautiful traditional towns in Halkidiki, built in the mountains at the foot of Cholomontas. It's a designated traditional settlement and offers a completely different, "wintry" side of the region, away from the beaches.

Architecture and character

It stands out for its preserved stone and timber mansions of Macedonian architecture, cobbled lanes and a warm, authentic atmosphere. The Folklore Museum and the old churches are worth a visit.

Arnaia is famous for its weaving tradition (handmade loom textiles), as well as its honey, herbs, chestnuts and local sweets — ideal to buy.

Nature and activities

Its position on Cholomontas makes it a base for hiking and mountain routes through forests of chestnut and oak — a cool escape in summer and magical in autumn.

Getting there and around

It's about 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki. Nearby are Palaiochori, Neohori and Taxiarhis.
