Nea Kallikratia

Nea Kallikratia is the first seaside town of Halkidiki as you descend from Thessaloniki, just 40 kilometres from the city centre. Thanks to this location it serves as the closest "sea" for Thessaloniki's residents and stays lively both in summer and on weekends throughout the year — setting it apart from the seasonal resorts of the peninsulas.

History and identity

The town was founded in 1922 by refugees from Kallikrateia of Propontis, who found similarities with their homeland in the landscape. This refugee origin has shaped its character, traditions and cuisine to this day, giving it a distinct cultural identity.

Beach and promenade

It is famous for its large Blue Flag beach, golden sand and shallow, clear waters — ideal for families with children. The busy seafront promenade lined with cafés, restaurants and taverns is the heart of town life, especially in the afternoons and at weekends.
