Nea Iraklia

Nea Iraklia is a seaside resort on the northern, western coast of Halkidiki, between Nea Kallikrateia and Nea Moudania, about 50 kilometers from Thessaloniki. Built by refugees from Asia Minor, it has evolved into one of the most popular and family-friendly destinations near the city, thanks to its long sandy beach and easy access.

What Nea Iraklia is known for

Nea Iraklia is famous for its Blue Flag beaches: long, wide sandy shores with shallow, warm waters, ideal for children and families. The seafront is filled with beach bars and organized beaches, while the sunset over the Thermaic Gulf, with Mount Olympus in the background, is among the most beautiful in the area. The combination of proximity and quality beach makes it a favorite for short getaways.

Activities and attractions

In Nea Iraklia, you can enjoy:

  • The organized beach with sunbeds, water sports, and shallow waters.
  • The beach bars for coffee, cocktails, and music by the waves.
  • The sunset with a view of Olympus and the Thermaic Gulf.
  • Cycling and walking along the seaside promenade.

Best time to visit

The best time is from May to September, peaking in July and August. Due to its short distance from Thessaloniki, Nea Iraklia is also ideal for weekend or day trips to the sea throughout the summer season.
