The Folklore Museum of Nea Moudania tells the story of a town built by refugees. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the population exchange of 1923, people from Moudania (Mudanya), a town on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, settled here and gave their new home the name of the one they had lost.
The collection includes traditional costumes, woven textiles, household utensils, tools and everyday objects, many of them brought by the first families or made in Halkidiki in the decades that followed. Through them you can see how the refugees kept their customs and cooking alive while adapting them to a new place.
A visit takes about an hour and is particularly meaningful for anyone with roots in Asia Minor. Opening hours vary by season, so confirm them before you go. To complete the picture, you can also visit the Museum of Asia Minor Culture in nearby Nea Triglia, a village with a similar story.
The Folklore Museum of Nea Moudania activity takes place in Nea Moudania, Mainland Halkidiki, Halkidiki.
