Trypiti is a small coastal spot in northeastern Halkidiki, a few kilometers south of Ouranoupoli. It’s not a typical village — it’s mainly a small harbor with some hotels, restaurants, and rentals. Its significance mainly comes from one role: it is the official departure point for ferries to the island of Amouliani, the only inhabited island in Halkidiki.
Location and How to Get There
3 km south of Ouranoupoli. It is 127 kilometers from Thessaloniki (2 hours and 10 minutes drive). It follows almost the same route as Ouranoupoli — you enter a junction in the last 5 minutes.
You can reach Ouranoupoli by KTEL and continue by taxi (5 euros) or with a local bus that serves the Ouranoupoli-Trypiti line during the summer.
The Importance of Trypiti: Ferries to Amouliani
From the small harbor of Trypiti, the ferries to the island of Amouliani depart. Details:
- Frequency: every 30-45 minutes in summer (June-September), less frequently off-season
- Duration: 10 minutes
- Ticket Prices:
- Pedestrians: 2-3 euros
- Car with driver: 10-15 euros
- Children up to 12 years: reduced fare
- First ferry: usually at 7:30 AM
- Last return ferry: 11:30 PM in summer (increases during peak)
If you plan to go to Amouliani by car in August, go early (before 10:00 AM) because the ferries fill up. In the worst case, you might have to wait for 1-2 trips.
The Beach
Trypiti itself has a decent sandy beach, although smaller than the well-known ones in the area. Pine trees provide natural shade. It is partially organized.
More impressive beaches nearby:
- Dragoudeli: 2 km north (towards Ouranoupoli), excellent sandy beach with a pine forest
- Komitza: 3 km south, a small hidden cove
- Beaches of Amouliani: a 10-minute ferry ride (Alykes, Megali Ammos, Agios Georgios)
- Central Ouranoupoli: 3 km north
Food and Accommodation
Trypiti has 3-4 tavernas near the harbor — mainly fish tavernas. It has a more "local" atmosphere compared to the heavily touristic Ouranoupoli. Prices are somewhat lower.
