From Pristina to Halkidiki

How to Get There

Pristina is 500 km from Halkidiki (~6.5 hours by car). The most common route goes through Skopje and down to Thessaloniki via the Bogorodica/Evzoni border. Kosovo already uses the euro, so you won't need to exchange currency when you arrive in Greece.

By Car

  • Route: Pristina → M2 motorway → Skopje (~1.5h) → A1 → Bogorodica/Evzoni (MK-GR border) → Thessaloniki → Halkidiki
  • Total time: ~6.5 hours driving + border waits
  • Road condition: Good motorway to Skopje, then continues as motorway through N. Macedonia

Check our car rental guide for exploring Halkidiki once you arrive. Tolls: ~€5-10 (N. Macedonia) + ~€10 (Greece).

Important info for drivers

  • Green card: Mandatory — both Kosovo and N. Macedonia are outside the EU. Confirm coverage for Greece and N. Macedonia
  • Double borders: Two crossings (XK→MK and MK→GR), plan accordingly
  • Fuel: Cheaper in Kosovo and N. Macedonia than in Greece — fill up before the Greek border
  • Speed limits in Greece: 130 km/h motorway, 90 km/h outside built-up areas

Border crossings

Two crossings — both 24/7:

  • Hani i Elezit (XK→MK): Typically 10-20 minutes
  • Bogorodica/Evzoni (MK→GR): Typically 20-60 minutes (up to 2 hours at July-August peak)

Total wait in good conditions: 30-60 minutes. Avoid Friday 16:00-22:00 and Saturday 06:00-12:00.

By Bus

Pristina-Skopje buses (~2h), then Skopje-Thessaloniki (~4h), then KTEL Halkidikis. Total: ~9 hours, €40-60. See our transport FAQ.

By Plane

Direct PRN-SKG flights aren't consistent — Wizz Air offers seasonal routes. Alternatively, connect via Vienna or Istanbul: 1-3 hours depending on layover + waiting time. From SKG, see our getting to Halkidiki guide.

When You Arrive

Halkidiki has three peninsulas — Kassandra is closest to Thessaloniki, Sithonia has the most photogenic beaches, and Ouranoupoli is the base for Mount Athos. Discover the best beaches of Sithonia or find accommodation for every budget.
