From Sofia to Halkidiki

How to Get There

Sofia is just 330 km from Halkidiki (~4 hours by car). It is one of the most popular routes for Bulgarian tourists heading to the stunning beaches of Halkidiki.

By Car

Two main routes are available:

  • Via Kulata-Promachonas: Sofia → Blagoevgrad → Serres → Halkidiki. The fastest option (~4 hours).
  • Via Petrich: Alternative via E85, slightly longer but less traffic.

By Bus

Direct buses run from Sofia to Thessaloniki (€15-25), then transfer to KTEL for Halkidiki. See our transport FAQ for schedules.

Border Crossing

The Kulata-Promachonas border operates 24/7. Avoid Friday evening and Saturday morning (peak times). EU citizens need ID or passport.
