Marathias Beach is located in northwestern Sithonia, near Nikiti. It is a small cove with beautiful turquoise waters and rocky edges. It is 110 km (1 hour 45 minutes drive) from Thessaloniki.
The beach is small (~250 meters), sandy with pebbly areas, featuring a shallow seabed. It is a free beach — there is no official organization. A kiosk may appear on peak days.
The unique feature of Marathias is its morphology: a small hidden cove protected by rocky edges, with exceptionally clear waters and an absence of mass tourism. It is one of those places that locals would prefer to keep undiscovered.
It is ideal for snorkeling — the rocky edges are home to bream, octopuses, and the water clarity allows for excellent visibility.
Clientele: local Greeks, groups who know the area. You will rarely encounter foreign tourists. Due to its small scale, it can fill up quickly on peak weekends in August — but generally remains quiet.
For swimming: safe with shallow waters near the shore. Kids are fine, but caution is needed due to the rocky edges.
Access: via provincial roads from Nikiti. Some sections of the access may be narrow. Parking is limited at the edges of the beach — it fills up quickly during peak times.
Bring water, snacks, towels, sunscreen, and water shoes. Combine your visit with a meal in Nikiti (8 km) afterwards.
