Karydi is undoubtedly the most famous and photographed beach in Halkidiki. It is located in northeastern Sithonia, in the Vourvourou area, 115 km from Thessaloniki (1 hour 45 minutes drive). Its uniqueness comes from the combination of fine white sand, shallow turquoise waters that remain shallow for over 60 meters, and the picturesque small island of Kavoura, which is just 50 meters from the shore — you can walk or swim there.
The water has an amazing color — among the clearest in Northern Greece. On sunny days with no waves, visibility for snorkeling exceeds 10 meters. You can find sea bream, salouvarthos, and octopuses near the rocky edges.
The beach is partially organized: sunbeds, a beach bar serving on the sand, and showers. Pine trees at the back provide natural shade for those who want to avoid the sunbeds.
Due to its popularity, Karydi gets overly crowded around noon in peak August. Strategy: arrive before 10:00 AM or after 5:00 PM for a better experience. In June and September, it is noticeably more relaxed — the ideal time to visit.
Access: via a paved road from Vourvourou (3 km). Paid parking (3-5 euros) or free parking a little further away with a 5-10 minute walk.
For families with small children: ideal due to the shallow waters — but avoid peak hours. From Karydi, you can easily reach other beaches in Vourvourou (Diaporos, Livari) or take a boat trip to Diaporos island, departing from the same port.
Paradise! Go early in the morning.
