Halkidiki isn't only beaches. The interior hides three significant mountains — Itamos, Holomontas, Stratoniko — with dense beech, chestnut and pine forests, monasteries, archaeological sites, and trails that reach the sea.
The area combines something unique: mountain and sea within 30 minutes. You can start your morning in the forest at 800 m elevation and dive into the turquoise waters of Sithonia in the afternoon. Unlike the Cyclades where "hiking" means a dry path under the sun, here trails are shady, green, and cool.
Sithonia's "spine," 811 m, dense pine forest reaching the sea. Ideal for hiking + swimming combos. Its peak offers the most stunning view — you see both the Toronean and Singitic gulfs.
The largest mountain (1,165 m), on the Sithonia-Athos boundary. Dense chestnut and beech forests, monasteries, abandoned gold mines. The European E4 long-distance trail passes through.
