Halkidiki is a dreamy destination wedding location: azure waters, pine-fringed shores, stone chapels, and luxury resorts. The combination of natural beauty, Mediterranean climate, and excellent infrastructure makes it perfect for couples seeking a memorable ceremony by the sea.
Getting legally married in Greece as a foreigner requires several documents:
Civil vs Religious: Civil ceremonies are simpler and performed by the mayor. Greek Orthodox ceremonies require both partners to be baptized Christians (not necessarily Orthodox). Catholic ceremonies require coordination with the local diocese.
May–June and September–October are ideal: pleasant temperatures (25-28 degrees Celsius), fewer crowds, better rates for venues and accommodation, and beautiful light for photography. July-August is possible but hot and more expensive.
Halkidiki offers extraordinary wedding photo locations: Afytos cliffside, Possidi lighthouse at sunset, pine-shaded beaches of Sithonia, stone village squares, and olive groves. The golden hour light is exceptional from May to October.
Summer (June–September) for beaches and swimming. July–August is peak. May, early June, or September give great weather with fewer crowds and 30–50% lower prices.
Fly to Thessaloniki (SKG), then 1–2 hours by car. Car rental from ~€25/day. Alternatively bus (KTEL Halkidiki), but schedules are limited. Detailed routes in /from guides.
Kassandra: lively, family-friendly, more touristy. Sithonia: quieter, more exotic, better nature. Athos: remote, ideal for tranquility. Browse /listings — book directly with owners, no booking fees.
Highly recommended. Beaches and villages are spread out, buses are sparse. If you skip the car, pick accommodation near a popular resort (Kallithea, Hanioti, Nikiti) with restaurants and beaches in walking distance.
