7-Day Halkidiki Road Trip Itinerary

Day 1-2: Kassandra Peninsula

Depart from Thessaloniki/SKG airport (80 km, 1 hour). Base yourself in Afytos or Kallithea.

• Day 1: Afytos (stone village with clifftop sea views), Kallithea (ruins of the Temple of Ammon Zeus, lively beach bars), sunset at Siviri beach
• Day 2: Possidi (lighthouse, long sandy beach), Sani Resort area (marina stroll), Polychrono for a seafood lunch

Driving distances: Afytos → Kallithea: 8 km | Kallithea → Possidi: 25 km | Possidi → Sani: 30 km

Day 3-4: Sithonia Peninsula

Transfer Kassandra → Vourvourou: 90 km, 1.5 hours via the main road.

• Day 3: Vourvourou (boat to the Blue Lagoon — €10-15), Kavourotrypes (dramatic orange cliffs, turquoise coves), Sarti for sunset with Mount Athos views
• Day 4: Porto Koufo (natural harbour, best fish tavernas), Toroni (ancient fortress ruins, sandy beach), Nikiti (old village walk, honey farm visit)

Driving distances: Vourvourou → Kavourotrypes: 15 km | Sarti → Porto Koufo: 25 km | Porto Koufo → Nikiti: 45 km

Day 5: Ammouliani Island

Sithonia → Tripiti ferry port: 80 km, 1.5 hours. Ferry: 15 min, €3/person.

• Morning: Alikes beach — the island's best, with shallow turquoise water
• Midday: Boat trip to Drenia uninhabited islets (€10-15 from Ammouliani port)
• Afternoon: Seafood lunch at a waterfront taverna in the village

Day 6: Ouranoupoli & Mount Athos Cruise

Tripiti → Ouranoupoli: 10 km, 15 minutes.

• Morning: Mount Athos cruise along the monastic peninsula (€20-30, 3 hours) — see ancient monasteries from the sea. Book at the harbour the evening before
• Afternoon: Prosforiou Tower (Byzantine landmark), Ouranoupoli beach, browse icon and souvenir shops

Day 7: Mountain Villages & Return

Ouranoupoli → Arnea: 65 km, 1 hour through scenic mountain roads.

• Arnea: Folklore Museum, stone mansions, local honey and textiles. Coffee at the plateia (village square)
• Parthenonas: A once-abandoned stone village reborn as a dining destination with panoramic Toroneos Gulf views (15 km from Neos Marmaras)
• Return to Thessaloniki: 100 km, 1.5 hours via the highway

Practical Tips

• Total driving: ~500 km over 7 days — very manageable
• Fuel: Fill up at main-road stations; small village pumps may close by 20:00
• Best months: June and September for fewer crowds and warm weather
• Navigation: Google Maps works well; download offline maps for mountain areas
