Boat Trip to Diaporos

The boat trip to Diaporos starts from Vourvourou, on the east coast of Sithonia. In front of the village lies a small archipelago of islets, Diaporos being the largest, and the water between them is shallow, sheltered and very clear.

The best-known stop is the 'Blue Lagoon', a shallow inlet of Diaporos with turquoise water, perfect for swimming off the boat. Around the islands there are small sandy beaches you can only reach by sea, as well as rocky spots that are good for snorkelling.

In Vourvourou you can rent boats of up to 30 horsepower, which require no licence, and there are also organised trips with a skipper. The outing usually lasts four to six hours.

It's best to set off early in the morning, as the wind often picks up in the afternoon. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen, since there's little shade on a boat. When you anchor, avoid the meadows of Posidonia, the protected seagrass on the seabed, and drop anchor on sand instead.
