Megalo Portokali Beach is the largest section of the Portokali-Kavourtripes complex, located in southwestern Sithonia. It is one of the most stunning beaches in Halkidiki, featuring characteristic white rocky cliffs and turquoise-emerald waters.
The shore is a small stretch of white sand, less extensive compared to the main beaches but breathtakingly beautiful. The shallow seabed and the remarkably clear waters make it one of the most transparent spots in Northern Greece.
LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE: zero organization, zero beach bar, zero showers. It is part of the larger protected area of Natura 2000. Bring everything you need.
For snorkeling, it is among the top spots in Halkidiki. The white rocks create underwater corners rich in life — bream, salema, octopuses. Clarity usually exceeds 10 meters.
Access: via a dirt road for the last 2 km. An SUV is more comfortable. It may be difficult after rain.
Bring: 2L of water per person, snacks, sunscreen SPF 50, a hat, water shoes, snorkeling gear. Take all your trash with you.
Best hours: 8:00-11:00 or 17:00-19:30. Avoid midday in peak August.
For families with small children: OK due to shallow waters but requires preparation and respect for the environment. Best suited for a 2-3 hour trip. Respect the environment — the area is sensitive.
The beach is located in Παραλία Μεγάλο Πορτοκάλι, Σιθωνία, Sithonia, Halkidiki.
