Stratoniki

Stratoniki is a picturesque mountain village of north-eastern Halkidiki, built on a slope overlooking the Strymonic Gulf, above the seaside Stratoni. It combines mountain beauty with a long and distinctive mining history.

The wider area is historically linked to the mines of Halkidiki (lead, zinc, gold), active here since antiquity. The village's name recalls Queen Stratonike, giving it historical depth and an identity different from the tourist resorts.

It's about 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki. Next to it are Stagira (Aristotle's birthplace) and Stratoni.
