Megali Ammos is one of the most well-known beaches of Ammouliani — the only inhabited island in Halkidiki. Access: a 10-minute ferry ride from Tripiti (3 km south of Ouranoupoli), ticket prices are 2-3 euros for pedestrians, 10-15 euros for cars.
The beach is sandy, large (hence the name — "Megali Ammos"), with shallow waters. It features fine white sand and turquoise waters. Some parts are partially organized with sunbeds and beach bars, while the edges remain free.
It’s ideal for families with small children — the sandy beach and shallow waters are safe for kids. The clientele is mixed — Greek vacationers with summer homes in Ammouliani and foreign tourists on day trips.
For swimming: excellent. For snorkeling: decent opportunities at the rocky edges.
In the surrounding area, there are several tavernas serving fresh fish — Ammouliani is famous for its mussels and seafood in general.
After swimming, a short stroll through the small village of Ammouliani is worth it — picturesque traditional architecture, quaint cafes, and a small church.
Access within the island: you can get around by car, bike, or on foot (the island is small). Free parking is available at the edges of the beach. Best time to visit: June-September.
The beach is located in Μεγάλη Άμμος, Άθως, Athos, Halkidiki.
