Ormos Panagias Beach

Ormos Panagias is a small harbor in northern Sithonia, famous among locals for its mussel farms and mussel tavernas. It is located 110 km (1 hour 40 minutes drive) from Thessaloniki, 5 km north of Metamorfosi.

The beach is of moderate length, sandy with small pebbles, and has a shallow seabed. While it may not be one of the most stunning beaches in Sithonia in terms of beauty, it offers several advantages: a tranquil atmosphere, easy access, and top-notch gastronomy at the waterfront.

The real highlight of Ormos Panagias is the 2-3 traditional mussel tavernas at the harbor, serving mussels in every possible way — steamed, saganaki, fried, mussel pie — at prices lower than anywhere else in Sithonia. A couple can enjoy a generous meal of mussels with tsipouro for 25-35 euros.

From the harbor, several boats also depart for the Diaporos islands — an alternative to Sarti and Vourvourou, often with smaller groups (a more intimate experience) and slightly different routes.

For swimming: decent waters, shallow, good for children. For snorkeling: moderate opportunities, better at the rocky edges of the bay.

Nearby beaches if you want more options: Vourvourou beaches (15 km east), Kastro Nikiti (15 km west), Platanitsi (10 km south).

The midday "recipe" for a complete Ormos Panagias experience: swim in the morning, mussels and tsipouro for lunch at a mussel taverna, relax at the harbor in the afternoon. Free parking.
